IELTS

If you are aspiring to study at the world’s leading educational institutions then you must make your profile strong enough to be eligible for these reputed institutions. Apart from the academic performance, English language proficiency has become one of the top priority for all the institutes for student eligibility.

Countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Germany make sure that no student that comes from a non-English background is allowed to study in their country without attaining a desirable score in IELTS. To be selection ready student must attain the required IELTS bands as organizations (British Council, IDP Australia and University of Cambridge) that conduct these tests are very strict on evaluation and make sure that only quality candidates with strong English proficiency go-ahead for further studies.

IELTS TEST Format

ACADEMIC – IELTS

Academic is divided into four sections

Listening

The test is of 30 minutes and 10 minutes are given extra for transferring answers to the answer sheet. A candidate’s ability to listen and understand a native speaker is tested through recorded conversations and monologues.

Reading

This test is of 60 minutes in which the student is required to study factual and descriptive passages and answer questions accordingly. This test is to measure one’s ability to read the language and understand it. This helps the students in their studies abroad as well as the curriculum they will be studying will be in English.

Writing

This 60 minutes test consists of two tasks: a 150 words passage to be written describing the diagram (a graph, table or a pie chart) that is provided and a 250 words essay on the topic asked in the test.

Speaking

In the speaking test the candidates are put through a series of questions in which they are asked to introduce themselves, converse with the examiner and speak on a topic given to them.

GENERAL – IELTS

General Training is also divided into four sections

Listening

The test is of 30 minutes and 10 minutes are given extra for transferring answers to the answer sheet. A candidate’s ability to listen and understand a native speaker is tested through recorded conversations and monologues.

Reading

The duration of this test is 60 minutes in which three reading passages with tasks will be given.
Section 1 will be based on two or three short factual texts.
Section 2 will be based on two short factual texts.
Section 3 will be based on one long text on the general topic.
(The extracts will be authentic as they will be taken from books, newspaper etc.)

Writing

Writing section will be of 60 minutes in which candidates will be asked to write a letter of 150 words and short essay of 250 words.

Speaking

In the speaking test, the candidates are put through a series of questions in which they are asked to introduce themselves, converse with the examiner and speak on a topic given to them.
